Recording a walk, a run or a bike ride
Use Fenzly as a GPS tracker: start an outing, read speed, distance and elevation live, find your sessions and totals in the history, export as GPX.
Before the first outing
Settings → Recording mode → Detailed, otherwise the trip button records no track. For a faithful track on a running or cycling route, set the Recording precision to Balanced or High; Economy is enough for a walk. Location “Always” lets the recording carry on with the screen off or the app in the background.
1. Starting the session
On the map, tap Start a trip:
- Name, optional: “Long run”, “Lake loop”.
- Activity type: walking, running, cycling, or Auto to let Fenzly recognise the mode of movement along the way. You can correct it during or after.
- Auto-stop: the session closes by itself after a while standing still, handy if you forget to stop it on arrival. Untick for a session with breaks.
- Share my position live: if you want someone close to follow you during the outing.
Tap Start the trip. “Acquiring GPS…” shows until the first fix; outdoors, a few seconds are enough.
2. During the session
The Active trip screen shows:
- the instant speed in km/h, the average speed, the distance and the elapsed time, the heading;
- the map with your track, North up or Heading up, and Follow my position to recentre;
- at the top of the sheet, the detected activity type, changed in one gesture if Fenzly got it wrong.
For a group outing, turn on Show members: the members of your circle who are moving appear on the map and in the Group list, with their distance from you. Nobody outside your circle sees those positions.
You can leave the screen, the recording carries on; the “Trip in progress” banner brings you back.
3. Finishing
Tap Stop the trip and confirm: the session is recorded. With auto-stop, it ends by itself once you stand still.
4. Reviewing the session
In My trips, the session’s card gathers the route on the map, duration, distance, average and maximum speed, and the elevation profile with the climb, estimated from GPS. Two useful actions:
- Category: Hike, Bike ride, Work trip, or a category you create, “Intervals” or “Club ride”.
- Export as GPX: the track file, to open in any mapping or training app.
5. Finding all your outings
The History tab → Trips gives, per week, month or year, the number of trips and the total distance, then the list of outings day by day. The filter chips isolate one category: the month’s cycling kilometres, the year’s runs. Each outing opens on its card. The depth of the history is a setting, keep everything by default (guide Reading my history).
What stays private
Sessions live on your phone. They are shared only with the circles where you chose “Everything”, in a plain form, and in detail only if you turn on “Detailed trips” for that circle. No server knows your routes, your speeds or the times you go out.
