Sharing my position live

Starting a share

Three starting points lead to the same screen:

• on the map, from a member’s card or the share button;
• in a 1-to-1 conversation, the share action in the header;
• in a circle conversation, the ”+” menu.

Then, three choices:

1. With whom? One or several people, or a whole circle: every member then receives the same card in the circle’s conversation.
2. For how long? A fixed duration, the end of the day, or Until I arrive.
3. To which destination? Optional. If you pick one of your places, the share stops by itself when you get there, and your people see an estimated arrival.

Tap Start sharing. There is nothing to accept on the other side.

While sharing

• A card appears in the conversation, “You are sharing your position live, 42 min left”, and a banner stays at the top of your map.
• Your people see your marker move and can open your position from the conversation card.
• Your phone only emits while you move: standing still, the share costs almost no battery.
• The share keeps running even with the app closed, as long as location “Always” is granted.

Stopping

The share stops by itself at the deadline or on arrival; the card then reads “Sharing ended” or “Arrived at 18:42”. To stop earlier, tap Stop on the conversation card, or Stop all in the banner if you share with several people.

Receiving a share

When someone close shares with you, a notification and a conversation card announce it, and their marker appears on your map. You have nothing to do to see it, and nothing is sent back: sharing yours is a separate gesture, if you wish.

If the person is neither in your contacts nor in one of your circles, their share lands in the Requests section of the conversations, with their first message. Nothing shows on your map until you accept, and you can block them: they will not know.

Child mode

A child can only share with the members of their family circles and the contacts a guardian allowed; other recipients do not appear in the choice.
