Naming the places in my timeline
Give a name to the stops Fenzly detects, choose between visited and favorite, correct a visit assigned to the wrong place and catch up on a missed move.
Why name places
In Detailed mode, Fenzly records your stops and trips without intervention. It knows where you stopped, not what the place is: a stop that was never named shows in the timeline with its coordinates, and it is not ranked in the History tab. Each place is named only once, later visits are recognised.
Naming a stop
- Open your timeline from the map, with the timeline button next to your name.
- On the unnamed stop, tap the pencil: “Name this place”.
- On the map, check that the pin sits on the right spot and adjust the radius: tight for a shop, wider for a park or a large site. Tap Continue.
- Pick a name. Fenzly suggests your own nearby places first, to avoid creating a duplicate, then the establishments around. You can also type any name you like.
- Add a category if you want to find this place in the History totals by category.
- Choose where to save it, then Save the place.
Visited or favorite
- Visited: the place is recognised in the timeline and counted in the History, with no watching and no alert. This is the choice offered when you name a stop.
- Favorites: in addition, Fenzly detects your arrivals and departures there, and the place can be shared with a circle. A favorite’s radius is at least 100 metres.
A place moves from one to the other from its page (guide Organising my places).
When two places get mixed up
Inside one building, GPS cannot tell the cinema from the restaurant next door.
- Correct place, in the stop’s menu, reassigns that visit only. Other visits do not change.
- Use this place by default here, on the place’s page, picks the one retained by default at that spot.
Catching up on a missed move
A hop of a few minutes can stay under the detection threshold. On the map, Check in adds your current position to the timeline. If you are at a known place, the app asks for confirmation, “Are you at …?”; answer “No, somewhere else” to name a new place.
What your circles see
A place’s name stays on your phone as long as you do not share it.
- In Everything mode, the circle’s members see your timeline, place names included.
- In Circle places mode, they only see the circle’s shared places; your other stops show to them as “Private place”.
- In Latest position or Off mode, no stop is shared.
This sharing is end-to-end encrypted: the server can read neither your places nor their names.
