History
Why does my timeline show stops without a name?
Because Fenzly knows where you stopped, not what the place is. Your timeline builds itself, stops and trips, but a stop at a place you have never named shows there with its coordinates: the app does not guess that it was a restaurant.
Naming the place once is enough:
- In the timeline, tap the pencil on the stop to open “Name this place”.
- Check the pin on the map, then pick a name. Fenzly suggests your nearby places first, then the establishments around.
- Save it in your visited places, or in your favorites if you also want your arrivals and departures there to be detected.
From then on, your visits to that place are recognised, in the timeline and in the History tab, where only named places are ranked.
Two special cases:
- Several places at the same address, a shopping centre for instance: GPS cannot tell them apart. “Correct place” reassigns one specific visit, and “Use this place by default here” picks the one retained by default.
- A short move was not detected: the “Check in” button on the map adds your current position to the timeline and offers to name it.
The establishment suggestions are looked up when you name the place, through the Fenzly server, so that the map provider does not see your IP address. The name you give stays on your phone; it is only sent, encrypted, to the circles you share that place or your whole timeline with. The guide Naming the places in my timeline walks through each step.
