How does Fenzly encrypt my location?

Fenzly uses Double Ratchet end-to-end encryption, the same protocol family as Signal and WhatsApp, to protect your locations. It runs on Olm, an open-source implementation whose core library was independently audited. Every location update is encrypted on your device, individually for each recipient, before it is ever sent.

The server only ever carries opaque encrypted data: it knows neither your coordinates, nor the names of your places, nor who is in your circles. Even we, who operate the service, cannot read your location.
